Warm Hearts, Warm Bodies: Christmas Coat & Cover Drive

Reflecting on the Success of the Coat & Cover Drive

This winter, Forge partnered with Hatch Breaker + Burr, a beloved local coffee shop, to bring warmth and comfort to our unsheltered neighbors in downtown Spokane. The Coat & Cover Drive, spearheaded by Quinton Baker from Forge, alongside Alex Howard and Mel Kolby from Hatch Breaker + Burr, showcased the power of community coming together to make a difference.

The Results Are In

Over the past month, the generosity of Spokane’s residents shone brightly. Together, we collected:

  • 27 coats
  • 50 beanies
  • 50 scarves
  • Over 100 pairs of socks
  • 27 pairs of gloves

Every item donated was a tangible expression of care, and we’re proud to share that each one found its way into the hands of someone in need. Each weekend, our team hit the streets of downtown Spokane, distributing these essential items directly to individuals facing harsh winter conditions.

A Community-Driven Effort

The drive was fueled by a creative incentive: customers who donated at least two items at Hatch Breaker + Burr received 10% off their purchase. This partnership not only brought in much-needed donations but also fostered a deeper connection between the coffee shop and the community it serves.

“Seeing people come in with bags full of warm items and leave with a smile was heartwarming,” said Alex Howard, co-owner of Hatch Breaker + Burr. “It’s a reminder of how small actions can create a ripple effect of kindness.”

The Impact on Spokane’s Unsheltered Community

The smiles, gratitude, and relief from those who received the donations were a powerful reminder of why this effort matters. Many expressed how much it meant to have someone care enough to help them stay warm during Spokane’s coldest months.

“This drive wasn’t just about providing physical warmth,” shared Quinton Baker. “It was about offering hope and showing our unsheltered neighbors that they are seen and valued.”

Thank You, Spokane!

We couldn’t have done this without you—the compassionate individuals who took the time to drop off donations, the team at Hatch Breaker + Burr who hosted the drive, and the volunteers who braved the cold to distribute items. This drive is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with purpose and heart.

While the Coat & Cover Drive has officially concluded, the spirit of giving doesn’t have to end here. Forge remains committed to serving Spokane’s vulnerable communities, and we invite you to join us in future initiatives.

Stay connected with Forge and Hatch Breaker + Burr for updates on upcoming projects and opportunities to make a difference. Together, we’re building a stronger, more compassionate Spokane.

With gratitude and warmth,

The Forge Team
